Coronation Street attraction plan given green light
POSTED 29 Jan 2014 . BY Jak Phillips
The famous cobbles site was home to Britain's oldest soap for 53 years
The Coronation Street cobbles at the soap's former home in Manchester’s Granada Studios will open as an attraction in April, following approval from the city’s council.

Attractions operator Continuum is working in partnership with ITV to develop a guided tour based around actual sets and props used in filming at the famous cobbles site over the last 53 years.

The attraction will be open for six months and ITV - which submitted the proposal to Manchester town hall planners last year - hopes to attract around 1,000 visitors a day.

‘Corrie’ producers moved filming and production to Salford Quays’ Media City in November, leaving the former site redundant.

But visitors will now once again be able to go behind the scenes of the UK’s oldest soap, learning stories and facts about the cast, as well as having a picture taken at the bar of the Rovers Return pub.

Juliana Delaney, CEO of Continuum Leading Attractions, said: “We will inject our enthusiasm and expertise in storytelling as well as creating a memorable visitor experience for all our guests around the sets and original cobbles of this world famous street.”

Prices have yet to be announced for the attraction, with booking details also to be confirmed at a later stage.

The wider Granada Studios complex was bought by developers Allied London and Manchester council in a £26.5m deal, with long-term plans for the site to form part of a blueprint for a new city centre neighbourhood.
