Merlin Entertainments has opened their twelfth Legoland Discovery Centre in Boston, US, celebrating the opening with Bertie, the IP’s mascot, breaking through an 8ft (2.4m) wall made of Lego bricks.

The 44,000sq ft (4,088sq m) indoor attraction marks the first Lego attraction in Boston, and tickets for the opening weekend were sold out well in advance.

The discovery centre is located on Boston’s Assembly Row in Somerville and features interactive Lego experiences, Lego rides, a Lego studios 4D cinema, Lego factory tour, birthday rooms and the Lego miniland, featuring replicas of Boston landmarks made out of Lego bricks.

General manager, David Gilmore thinks the discovery centre is the most exciting attraction to open in the area this year. “We’re thrilled to finally open our doors and allow Lego fans young and old to indulge in the endless opportunities for creativity, learning and fun within our unique attraction,” he said.

The attraction is geared toward children aged between three and 10 meaning that adults must be accompanied by a child in order to enter. But for the older fans there will be adult-only evening events.

Merlin is the world’s second largest visitor attractions operator and speaking to Attractions Management recently, Merlin CEO Nick Varney said that the company was planning a huge development of its Midway brands, including the Legoland Discovery Centres, Sea Life and Dungeons attractions.

Merlin is also continuing its global roll out of Legoland Discovery Centres its having signed a deal with shopping centre developer Multi to bring the popular attraction to Istanbul.
