Warner Bros FEC and Asia's tallest ferris wheel planned for Studio City in China
POSTED 16 Jan 2015 . BY Tom Anstey
Studio City opens in Q3 of 2015
Melco Crown Entertainment’s upcoming US$3.2bn (€2.7bn, £2.1bn) cinematic-themed Studio City Resort has revealed plans to include a Warner Brothers-themed family entertainment centre and what it claims will be the tallest ferris wheel in Asia.

The 30,000sq ft (2,787sq m) family entertainment centre (FEC) is set to include a Batman-themed motion simulator and the 130m (427ft) wheel – tentatively named ‘The Golden Eye’ – which will be built into the facade of the resort’s two hotel towers. The centre will also feature costumed Warner Bros. characters and DC Comics characters including Wonder Woman, The Flash and Superman.

As part of the launch, Melco has drafted in Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt and Martin Scorsese to shoot a US$70m (€59.5m, £46m) short film called “The Audition”, which plugs both Manila’s City of Dreams and Macau’s Studio City.

Aside from the new announcements, the resort will include 1,600 bedrooms, a casino, a 300,000sq ft (27,870sq m) shopping mall, seven family-oriented entertainment venues including the new FEC, 30 dining options and a 5,000-capacity arena. The 5,000,000sq ft (464,000sq m) development is set to launch in Q3 of this year. Four hotels are planned for the site, including a Ritz-Carlton, W Hotel, Marriott and Tang Hotel.
